"Hi, I'm Stacy D. and I live in the northwest. I'm in my mid-50s and have been looking for the last several years to get feeling better physically and emotionally. I have had issues with my back for almost my whole life, and have been told to do more exercising. I also had a bone density test and have signs of Osteopenia. That means strength training, according to my physician. Then, in addition to that I started putting on the postmenopausal weight gain.
I was going down several rabbit holes! Where do I start? How do I do it? I would just wing it. A little bit of this, and a little bit of that. I was not seeing any results and would become very discouraged. Probably like so many people like me, I would keep doing research, which stressed me out. Then I looked specifically for a trainer AND a nutritionist for women's health, particularly someone who has been through some of what I am dealing with. Not someone in their 30's. What worked for me then at that age DOES NOT work after 50!
I found Lisa with Body and Soul and reached out to her. She took the time to listen and was open with me about the program and if it was right for me. I have NEVER joined a program like this, so it made me nervous and the cost was a little intimidating to me. However, I decided my health was definitely worth it. I decided to invest in my health!
I loved how the program is NOT a quick fix, but a way of life. She progressively works with you a little at a time. I loved building up each week with new habits and looked forward to my workouts being planned out. I am so much more conscious of what I do and how I plan. Life is less stressful in so many ways. "I had just about given up trying to lose weight when I again connected with Lisa. I trained with her over 15 years ago and did well. Then life with three children got in the way. Each new decade brought another 5- 7 lbs. My doctor said not to worry. This is supposed to happen. Then COVID hit and another 5 lbs came on. I was done! I could not stand to have the weight on my body but I didn't know what to do. I went the traditional route of seeing a nutritionist per the recommendation of my doctor, who was still not concerned about my weight gain. The nutritionist told me I wasn't eating enough for my metabolic rate (measured by some crazy machine). Upped my calories by about 500 per day. And of course that led to more weight gain even as I continued 3- 4 cardio workouts a week.
Lisa changed all of the spiraling I was doing. She showed me how to adjust my macronutrients to what my body needed to lose the weight. Then she added weight lifting into my workouts. She made me see how important building muscle is to weight loss. Balancing life is also discussed since stress also plays a huge role in weight gain. After completing the 12 Week Program I have lost 13lbs and am going to keep going as a member! I am looking forward to continuing this journey. "I’m 54 and have been pretty active and health conscious for my entire adult life. I lift weights, walk, play pickleball, and cycle. Despite that, I’ve gained almost thirty pounds in the last two years. None of my previous strategies were working to get back on track…I changed my diet (WFPB) and started working out more (every day for at least an hour) to no avail. Instead, I felt constantly drained of energy and was utterly overwhelmed by my inability to control the levers that manage my health and well-being. Out of desperation, I found Lisa’s website and booked a free call.
I have to admit I was terrified by what I heard because I grew up “knowing” that eating less and working out more causes weight to fall off, and Lisa was asking me to believe that exercising less and eating more nutritionally targeted foods could help me lose weight, gain muscle, and feel energized while still feeling full. "I was overweight, working long hours and not really looking at myself because clothes can hide a lot. Suddenly I realized I was at my highest pregnancy weight and that was 20+ years ago!! So I tried by myself but couldn't move the scale. I needed to do something different. I looked online and saw Body & Soul. I liked what I read and called. "Despite a lifetime of healthy eating and exercise habits, I had come to a place where I didn’t recognize my body. A 'spare tire' around my waist had crept up to the point where none of my clothes fit, and I was really frustrated. I tried various programs on my own but none of them yielded the results I was looking for. One day this summer I made the decision that I needed some coaching, and a Google search led me to Lisa’s Body and Soul program. 16 weeks later I am 9 pounds lighter with 9 inches lost, and I am wearing a smaller jeans size than I did ten years ago. "For most of my life, I have been able to maintain my weight, through running, exercise, and watching what I ate. I turned 50 in 2020 and I started to notice a bulge in my stomach and love handles. No matter what I did I was unable to get rid of the pouch. I also noticed a gradual weight gain and I stopped weighing myself. Nothing worked anymore - not exercise, not eating less. In March after a weigh-in, I realized that I needed the help of a nutritionist. Nothing was working despite what I considered to be a healthy diet and an active lifestyle. I had gained about 17 pounds from my ideal weight. I took to Google to search for Nutritionists that worked with women over 50 and found Lisa. Before Mary joined Body & Soul Coaching, she lived an incredibly busy life, had no time for herself and found she was gaining and gaining more and more weight, especially after turning fifty. She tried everything she could think of, her blood sugar and cholesterol was rising and nothing she was doing was working. She felt frustrated and hopeless and when she found Body & Soul Coaching, it was her last ditch effort and didn't believe she could do it.
